Recently in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, a person has been murdered by some people who are related to caste system.
Introduction :-
Ø The feeling of superiority gives rise to casteism in the society. The
Indian constitution has given ideals like social economic political justice,
freedom, fraternity, secularism to every person, but Indian society based on
caste and religion.
Ø Western constitutional values have been incorporated in the Indian
constitution, in which the person was considered as the original unit.
Discrimination has been banned on the basis of caste, religion, sex, race,
place of birth, etc. But Indian society is very traditional, community is more
important than individual. This situation becomes a factor of problems like
casteism, communalism in India.
Caste system in present-day
Ø After 1947, independence, increasing urbanization, industrialization,
expansion of education, social religious reform movements influenced the caste
system. Following these procedures, the following conclusions can be drawn for
the caste system.
Ø The caste system is not getting eradicated but it is harmonizing with
new changes.
Ø Caste-based restrictions have now ended, all castes are mobilizing and
working as pressure groups, First Past the Poll system is also responsible for
this.
Ø Today, economic justice, political justice is not based on caste, but
social justice is still disrupted.
Ø Inter-caste conflicts are increasing, but it is more to gain political
power than to gain cultural status.
Ø Casteism has definitely increased.
Ø Caste has been politicized in India and castes are now being used to
gain votes and power.
Ø
In a backward society like India, castes have
played the role of pressure groups.
Ø
It is not logical to say that castes will end,
but rather the real issue is what will be the role of castes in future.
Ø
The structure of castes is not completely
finished, but its form changes.
Ø
Some castes underwent secularization and
secularization.
Ø But in this structure of castes, the dimensions of social justice, equality and fraternity described by the constitution are still looking very far in the present situation.
Negative side of caste System
Ø Caste-based societies are considered stable and sedentary, because the
place of the
Ø individual is determined on the basis of birth in the society. Caste
is a divided society, heterosexual and community dominant.
Ø Whereas in the Indian Constitution, each person's equal dignity and
equality and bondage give central importance. 'Therefore, in principle it
appears that the ideals of caste and constitution are hostile to each other.
Ø
According to thinkers, seeking votes on the basis
of castes is contrary to constitutional values.
Ø Caste armies (eg, Bhima Sena, Karni Sena, Parashuram Sena etc.) have
been formed on the basis of caste in India resulting in violent ethnic
conflicts.
Ø It creates problems in Indian society and polity and causes problems
like caste politics, communalism.
Ø Indicates the interaction between Indian society and a modern
democratic political system.
Positive side of caste
The basic structure of Indian society is caste based. The social and hierarchical structure of castes was broken due to the right to equality given in the Indian constitution, but the castes are mobilizing and working as pressure groups in the democratic process. Majority rule has been made practical by the ethnic group. Because earlier political power in India which was with a certain class, has now been distributed.
Conclusion: -
Constitution
and governments in India have consistently tried to eradicate caste system.
Under which various provisions in fundamental rights, political justice were
provided to all etc.. But somewhere the conditions resulting from the democratic
system of majority have strengthened the caste system and politicized the
castes in India.
