There are common upsc syllabus for all civil services such as indian administrative service(IAS), indian foreign service(IFS), indian police service(IPS), indian revenue service(IRS) .
The civil service exam is conducted in three stages :-
stage 1 :- preliminary examination (objective)
stage 2 :- mains examination (descriptive)
stage 3 :- interview (personality test)
Stage 1 :- Preliminary examination
Ø IAS prelims exam is a
multiple-choice question-based exam where the candidates require marking the
right answer of the option.
Ø Prelims exam has two papers and both are 200 marks of
each and there marks are not included in the final list.
Ø These two papers are only for qualifying.
Ø The upsc GS paper consist of 100 questions and each question have 2 marks, while the CSAT paper consist of 80 questions and having 2.5 marks of each question and both paper have negative marks for wrong answer marked to the tune of 1/3rd of the total marks assigned to that question.
Ø Questions that are not attempted will not attract any negative marks.

Ø Only such candidate who attend both prelims paper 1
and prelims paper 2 who attend the mains exam.
Ø The upsc mains exam consist of 9 paper out of which 2 are qualifying paper of 300 marks and 3 hours duration.
Ø And the rest seven paper can be written in any of the language that you chosen in your upsc exam.
Ø Only such candidate who attend 30% in both the language paper who attend the essay, GS paper and optional paper.
Ø In case of candidate does not qualify in these language papers then the marks obtained in essay, GS paper and optional will not be counted.
