Famous painters of india
These are a significant number of painters in india, who have made adequate contribution to the world of art and are known throughout the globe. Paintings has a diverse history in the art and culture of india. Begining from the ancient times through the medieval times and the present modern day painting has enolved from murals and miniatures contemporary style with tinges of modern art is abstract as well as real.
Abanindranath tagore:-
Abnindranath tagore (1871-1951) is regarded as the founder of the neo-indian school of paintings known as the Bengal school and is one of the important painters of india. He was a major proponent of swadeshi values in the tradition.
That is the reason where why he advocated for the Mughal and Rajput styles, which could stop the influence western idias of art. He was also regarded as the renowed writter. he founded the indian society oriental art. bharat mata (1905), and passing of shah jahan (1900) are among his works.
Amrita shergil :-
Amrita shergil (1913-1941) can be regarded as one of india's first modernist painter and is threfore, one of the prominent painters of india. she was educated in Florence in paris and developed a style that was exhibited in her works. She was an avid traveller. she went to Turkey, France and many other european countries and derived heavily art factors from their art culture. It reflected in her paintings, Tihatan(1937), Red brick house(1938), Hill scene(1938). Specials traits in her work were a definite facial type and physiogamy, which shows her women taking a narcissistic turn. Her artistic venture was more of a hybrid nature incorporating oriental and western background.
Nandalal bose:-
Nandalal bose (1882-1966) is considered as one of the best modern painter of india and a key figure of contexual modernism. He was influenced by the tagore family and the mural paintings of Ajanta. which can be seen in his work. his subjects were basically themes from indian mythology, villages and the women. He was the principal of the Kala bhawan shantiniketan in the year 1922.
Raja ravi verma:-
Raja ravi verma (1848-1906) was born in koil thampuran of kilimanoor royal family and is considered as combining traditionalist traits and rationalist tendencies among the moderns. Raja ravi verma is recognised by the depiction of scenes from the epics of Ramayana and the Mahabharta. he won the first prize in the vienna art exhibition in 1873 and this brought him into the limelight.
His painting can be classified into portraits, portraits based composition theatrical compositions, important works include shakuntala, Lady with fruit etc.
Jamini roy:-
Jamini roy (1887-1972) was a very renowed indian painter, whose works portray the prevalence of the Kalighat paintings and the village patuas. his work displayed post-impressionist styles of landscape and portraits. despite a poverty stricken life, roy experimented with it. he subtly denied the modern traces yet brought a new era in modern art. his subjects were Ramayana, Radha-Krishna, Jesus christ etc.
MF hussain:-
MF hussain born in 1915, is considered one of the most important and criticized artist. He began his career by painting huge cinema posters. He was among the group of artists, who wanted to break away from the nationalist traditions of the Bengal school of art starting an indian avant-garde in more wide spread international manner.
